“Conservation is at the heart of what we do.”

OUR IMPACT

Mashatu Game Reserve, set within Botswana’s Northern Tuli Game Reserve, continues to be a living example of how responsible tourism and conservation coexist in harmony.

Mashatu's conservation in action:

Sustainable operations:

  • A wilderness without fences: Wildlife at Mashatu roams freely across wildlife corridors, drawn naturally by the presence of eight rivers. No animals are hunted or culled — this is a true refuge for life.
  • Five of Mashatu’s six camps are solar powered and classified as “green camps”. Botswana’s 95 % sunshine days each year helps support this initiative.
  • Laundry is sun-dried, gardens are indigenous, and guests are provided with refillable flasks to reduce single-use plastics and water consumption.
  • Mashatu proudly supports Botswana by sourcing 95% of all supplies from within the country (food and beverages to building and vehicle supplies), contributing around P91 million a year to Botswana’s local economy.
  • Conservation levies contribute to Mashatu’s conservation and community efforts, resulting in a million litres of water saved a month and the protection of over 86 Iconic Trees of Mashatu – ongoing projects address erosion rehabilitation, alien plant control, and the protection of Mashatu’s iconic trees through innovative elephant-safe fencing.
  • A central recycling plant at Merryhill (the reserve’s HQ) manages glass, tins and waste reuse across the reserve.
  • Through Hydra VIS systems and wildlife tracking, spatial data supports research and habitat understanding for species such as elephants, big cats, and migratory birds.

Partnerships:
Conservation levies directly fund anti-poaching units, human-wildlife conflict management and restoration initiatives through the Tuli Conservation Trust and NOTUGRE.

Set on Mozambique’s secluded coast, Pambele operates entirely off-grid
— proof that luxury and sustainability can exist in perfect harmony.

Pambele’s conservation in action:

100 % off-grid: Pambele runs fully on solar energy — no connection to city power, ensuring zero reliance on fossil fuel grids.

Water independence: All lodge water is produced through desalination, while drinking water is generated directly from the atmosphere — converting humidity into fresh, clean water for guests and staff.

Waste reduction: Each guest receives a biodegradable wheatstraw refillable bottle, eliminating the need for single-use plastics.

Sourcing with care: Wherever possible, Pambele partners with nearby island suppliers, choosing local, small-scale producers to support surrounding livelihoods while keeping our environmental footprint minimal.

Pambele’s ongoing projects, including the development of a new community clinic, reflect our broader vision — to preserve not only the landscape, but also the wellbeing of those who call it home.
